Designing on myspace

May 28, 2007

Myspace is kinda ugly, if you really know how nice sites look like then you have to agree with me that myspace is ugly.

When you first sign up for a new profile, your page looks boring (like really boring white and orange).
You want to change that as soon as possible because nobody likes the plain look.
Also, make sure you don’t exaggerate because some profiles are full off graphics and other stuff, causing browsers to use up to 100% CPU.

Another myspace blog is discussing this kind of stuff, so if you are interested have a look there too.

Below are a couple of examples of people decorating their profiles:

What is this blog all about?

In the next couple of weeks I’ll be concentrating on the social network called MySpace.
This US based online social network is growing fast and is very popular among teens!

People sign up (free) and instantly have their own space (profile). A profile is a page where people can tell a little something about themselves, or add images and videos. You can find friends/add them to your profile or leave a comment on another profile.

Why would someone add a friend?
Adding a friend on myspace is a sign of respect from one person to the other. These virtual friends will send you messages or comments, providing you give them “attention” as well.

What about personalizing a profile?
Well the personalizing of a profile is pretty easy! People use so called myspace layouts which are in fact CSS codes (not HTML). They put these on their profile and instantly see the design of their profile changed to the way they want it to be.

There is a huge amount of layouts available so you will definitely find something you’ll like!

Why do people comment eachother?
Comments are in fact messages from a visitor to the profile owner. The only difference with private messages is that these messages are in fact public. Most of the time, these messages contain praises or jokes to show the other people that they appreciate/respect the profile owner.

This short summary should give you an idea of what we’ll be concentrating on the next coming weeks. Hope to see you then!
